Could CT Scan Radiation Triple Brain Tumor Risk

Scientists are now warning over the link between CT scan radiation and elevated brain tumor risk after the information was brought to the surface, thanks to new research stemming from Newcastle University which says that CT scans, routinely performed on children and adults alike at the suggestion of their doctor, may actually triple the risk of developing leukemia or brain tumors in children. 

The scientists discovered that due to the fact that the CT scans can trigger cancer, it should only be used when “fully clinically justified.” suggested the report which was published in The Lancet medical journal this Thursday.

The doctors frequently use CT scans to examine the severity of chest infections and other diseases. In addition, head trauma is also examined with CT scans to check for brain injury. This is particularly problematic when considering the fact that these scans involve rather large doses of radiation, even when compared to x-ray alternatives. 

CT scan radiation can be especially problematic with growing and developing brains.

In fact, CT scans emit 10 times more radiation than x-ray options. It is for this reason that the researchers of the study conclude that it should be a “priority” to limit radiation doses used in CT scans. 

The results were based on 180,000 children who received CT scans in Britain between 1985 and 2002.

World's Biggest Mango Treatment Plant Starts Processing

KARACHI: The World’s biggest hot water treatment plants of mangoes has started its operations in Karachi that will help in finding new important markets for exports. 

Chief Executive of Pakistan Hortifresh Processing Private Limited Babar Khan Durrani Speaking at the launch ceremony on Saturday said that the hot water treatment plant will enable Pakistan to export its mangoes to new markets of South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Mauritius, Iran, Lebanon and Jordon while Australia is expected to soon approve imports as they recently inspected the facility.

The plant is setup with public private partnership with an investment of Rs230 million out of which Rs80 million have been provided by Federal Minister for Commerce Makhdoom Amin Faheem.

Pakistan Hortifresh Processing will manage the plant but since it has pubic investment, the plant infrastructure will be used as a common facility centre for all mango exporters of the country. 

The treatment plant not only improves the physical appearance of mangoes but it also removes fruit diseases owing to which many countries are reluctant to import Pakistani fruits, speakers said. 

Pakistan Fruits and Vegetable Exporters Association former chairman Abdul Wahid said that the plant is a major development for Pakistan’s mango industry because it will add value to the fruit’s exports.

Neutrons aren’t faster than light, CERN confirms

CERN has confirmed that its previous results which showed that the neutrons can travel faster than the speed of light, which proved Einstein's theory of relativity wrong, now say that the shock result from its Gran Sasso Laboratory was indeed the result of a mechanical error. 

The scientist now say that re-tests have confirmed that a faulty piece of fiber-optic hardware caused the OPERA experiment to suggest that neutrinos could be accelerated to velocities beyond the speed of light. The findings re-affirm Einstein's assertions that faster-than-light travel is not possible.

The research director of CERN Sergio Bertolucci reaffirms that "Although this result isn’t as exciting as some would have liked, it is what we all expected deep down," said 

"The story captured the public imagination, and has given people the opportunity to see the scientific method in action, an unexpected result was put up for scrutiny, thoroughly investigated and resolved in part thanks to collaboration between normally competing experiments."

Who is Loosing Patience, Pakistan or US

US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has said that US has reached its limits with Pakistan, he repeated criticism of Pakistan's inaction, which he appeared to signal a somewhat tougher stance and a suggestion that the U.S. is becoming even more willing and quick to strike terrorist targets inside Pakistan. 

A senior U.S. official acknowledged Thursday that the recent increase in drone strikes on insurgents in Pakistan is due in part to frustration with Islamabad. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive operations.

Despite repeated drone attacks, which Pakistan sees as a violation of a sovereign country, US continue blaming Pakistan of its inaction against safe heavens. US has also stopped Pakistan's coalition support fund which Pakistan has consumed. 

US frustration seems to be on Pakistan's not opening Nato supply route through Pakistan, which is most shortest and economical. Pakistan has blocked the supply route six month ago when, Pakistan thought, US attacked a well known Pakistani check post on Afghan border killing 27 Pakistani soldiers, which was established to stop terrorist crossing the Pak-Afghan border. Since than Pakistan has asked US to apologize Pakistan and assure that such deliberated incident would not happen once again for which US clearly said that he will neither apologize nor grantee the occurrence of such an incident in future.

Pakistan was frustrated once again when US started drone attacks in Pakistani areas including mosques, houses and funerals on daily basis killing more than 60 persons in a week.

Pakistan immediately called on US to stop such an attacks and called US ambassador in Foreign office and recorded her protest.

Pakistan is also frustrated over activities of the US embassy in Pakistan, few days ago two embassy persons along with two Pakistanis were caught  with a large cache of weapons while they were coming from Pakistani tribal areas.

Pakistani authorities are also frustrated on the illegal activities of US persons in Pakistan, last year Davis Raymond was caught by police after he killed two persons in Lahore and while running killed third person. 

Pakistani People are once again feeling betrayed by US, as they were first betrayed during Soviet-Afghan war in 80s. US sought help from Pakistan with a promise to help it in any distress but now when Pakistani economy has sunk deep and facing crisis of fuel and energy crisis, US is dictating its terms and conditions over Pakistan by forcing him not to get any gas or electricity from Iran.
